About Us

Yorkshire Bike Shack is a not-for-profit social enterprise run by a mix of trained mechanics and amazing volunteers who are really passionate about cycling and the community.

Our aim is to improve people's health and the environment by promoting far more people to use cycling for leisure and commuting. Our new workshop in the heart of Woodfield Park, Doncaster will be a social hub for cyclists, a place to learn new skills and an alternative education provision for young students. Things are moving very quickly in the right direction and we are all very excited about the future.

We provide an open access to a workshop, bike maintenance training, refurbished bike sales, bike repairs/servicing and bike maintenance training. We partner with local community organisations, school groups and individuals to create opportunities to change people's lives.

We have just been awarded some major funding from Doncaster Council to set up a permanent workshop next door to St. Catherine's House in Woodfield Park, Balby. This part is in the planning stages and we hope to be active there around December time. Until that time we will continue to run the Saturday repair workshop sessions from Bentley Urban Farm.

Meet the Team

Julian smlJulian - Founder/Director
Having come from an engineering background, Julian has always enjoyed the challenge of fixing machinery and been interested in how things work. Together with his wife, they have also been foster carers since 2013. It was the combination of his engineering skills and love of helping less fortunate people that led him to establish Yorkshire Bike Shack in January 2021. He now runs the project full-time and has a passion to improve the way businesses help in the community.
By day, Adam is a skilled joiner but at the weekend he kindly devotes a few hours to helping us run the repair workshops. He initially joined us through one of the educational workshops we run.

Martin smlMartin - Director
Having retired from being an Occupational Health Practitioner, Martin now uses his time to help people in need and in particular, refugees by supplying refurbished bikes to them.

Ryan smlRyan - Volunteer
With experience of working with children in support and pastoral roles, Ryan now devotes much of his time helping children through alternative education. He works with us as a volunteer both in the repair workshops and assisting with the children from schools.

Adam smlAdam - Volunteer
By day Adam is a skilled joiner, but at the weekend he kindly devotes a few of his time to helping us run the repair workshops. He initially joined us through one of our educational workshops we run.

Wendy smlWendy - Volunteer
Wendy also joined us after experiencing one of our educational workshops. In her full-time job she helps to run The York Railway Museum and has a love of everything mechanical. She comes to help us on occasional Saturdays in between her busy schedule.
